Independence Day 2 has cast Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Jesse Usher in roles for the sequel that follows the original from twenty years ago.

Goldblum will return as David Levinson; Usher will be playing Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smith’s Captain Steven Hiller; Hemsworth is rumored to be playing the son-in-law of Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore.

Director Roland Emmerich shared the news on Facebook.

First you strategically position your pieces, and when the time is right, you strike.” Excited to officially announce Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum as the next two pieces of the Independence Day sequel!

Excited to officially announce that Jessie Usher will be joining the cast for the sequel of Independence Day!

Trivia: My producing partner Harald Kloser noticed Jessie in between sets of pushups at the gym and gave him an audition. As they say, the rest is history!

Independence Day 2 has a June 24, 2016 release, which will not see Will Smith return, but Pullman is expected back.

Potential plot details that Emmerich previously talked about mentioned the aliens returning, but Earth better prepared as they have used the alien technology to their advantage.

Liam Hemsworth, he of the Hunger Games movies and being Thor’s little bro, digs into a slice of country noir in the indie drama Cut Bank. Available on DirecTV now and in theaters April 3, director Matt Shakman’s movie features Hemsworth as a working-class guy named Dwayne trying to get the heck out of his small Montana town by any means necessary — which for this film means being in cahoots with the local postman (Bruce Dern) and faking the old guy’s murder to get some cash.

Suffice it to say, things don’t go as planned. For one, his boss (Billy Bob Thornton) finds the whole thing fishy, and in this exclusive clip, Dwayne gets his “squirrelly ass” chewed out while the oddball mail guy hides underneath his feet.
The town is full of eclectic weirdos — played by Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Oliver Platt and Michael Stuhlbarg — so check out this trailer for a peek at Cut Bank‘s quirky, Coens-esque vibe.
