Australian actor Actor Liam Hemsworth took time to greet his fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures, before receiving the Golden Eye Award at the Zurich Film Festival on Saturday (September 26).
Film fans waited for hours to take pictures or get their posters signed by the “Hunger Games” star Hemsworth.
Hemsworth, who has seen his star rise in Hollywood, playing a leading role in dystopian young adult film franchise “The Hunger Games” and taking on action roles in “The Expendables 2” and “Paranoia”, told media he felt honoured to be part of the Zurich Festival.
“I feel very honoured, you know, I feel very fortunate to be part of this festival,” Hemsworth told media on the green carpet. “It’s, you know, a relatively young festival, I guess but something that’s celebrating and honouring filmmaking and yeah, I’m very honoured to be a part of it.”
After greeting fans on the “green carpet”, Melbourne-born Hemsworth headed for the Golden Eye Award ceremony.
Hemsworth walked up to the stage to receive his award, which recognises his achievements as “The New A-Lister”.
Speaking from stage, Hemsworth commented on his new film where he stars opposite Kate Winslet, saying he had been looking for an opportunity to do a film in Australia after spending six years in Hollywood.
“I sort of have been looking for a few years to do a film back in Australia. I’ve been working in America for the past six years and I really just wanted to go back and do something in my own accent. This came along and Kate Winslet was a part of it and that was the deciding factor. Yeah, it was just a great opportunity,” Hemsworth said from stage.
His new film “The Dressmaker” with Kate Winslet takes place in 1950s Australia.
The Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) has established itself as one of the world’s top films festivals, discovering and promoting independent voices and talent from around the world, showcasing a diverse array of international films and serving as the setting for many world and European premieres.
Have you ever gazed at the glory of Chris and Liam Hemsworth and wondered what, exactly, was in the water in Melbourne, Australia? That’s essentially the question Vanity Fair senior West Coast editor Krista Smith asked Liam, star of the Toronto Film Festival entry The Dressmaker. The younger Hemsworth jokes, “My mom was vegetarian my whole life and still is. So we ate a lot of vegetarian meals growing up. So maybe that’s the key. More plant-based meals.” Not since Popeye have veggies had such a ringing endorsement. And Liam’s veggie-loving ways may come as a relief to the newest lady in his life: Miss Piggy.
But it wasn’t all kale salads and “kumbaya” in the Hemsworth household. Liam also remembers the time he flung a knife at his brother Chris’s head. Only the handle hit that god-like face, thank Odin. Both Hemsworth brothers got their start on the two biggest soaps in Australia—Neighbours and Home and Away—and Liam reflects fondly on the experience. And all this Australian-themed reflection couldn’t be more apt because The Dressmaker is actually the first film where Liam gets to speak in his native accent. He uses it to romance a well-tailored Kate Winslet in the rough and tumble outback. Whatever would Miss Piggy say?
LIAM HEMSWORTH will return to Australia this October to celebrate the release of the new comedy-drama THE DRESSMAKER, alongside co-stars JUDY DAVIS, HUGO WEAVING and SARAH SNOOK.
The Australian Premiere of THE DRESSMAKER will be held on Sunday October 18 at Village Cinemas Crown in Melbourne where the stellar cast will be joined on the red carpet by their highly-acclaimed filmmaking team, including Director JOCELYN MOORHOUSE, Producer SUE MASLIN and the bestselling author of THE DRESSMAKER, ROSALIE HAM.
Shot entirely in Victoria Australia, THE DRESSMAKER has gone on to attract worldwide attention with the film selected to celebrate its World Premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival on September 14.
Following its international debut, THE DRESSMAKER’s Australian Premiere will mark the film’s highly anticipated return to Victoria where production took place across the state with the support of over 140 crew, 35 cast and 350 extras.
“The cinematic beauty and charm of The Dressmaker is a shining example of the talent and creativity that emanates out of Victoria. Film Victoria is delighted to have supported Sue Maslin and Jocelyn Moorhouse in bringing Rosalie Ham’s much-loved novel to life,” says Jenni Tosi, CEO, Film Victoria.
The lead cast and crew will also head to Sydney for a special Red Carpet Screening presented by Marie Claire on Tuesday October 20 at Event Cinemas George Street.
ABC’s The Muppets is adding another big guest star.
The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth is coming to the new fall comedy series, EW has learned exclusively.
Hemsworth will play himself on the show — a more grown-up take on the beloved Muppet characters that goes “behind the scenes” as Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest stage a new prime-time series. We can only hope Hemsworth coming on board means some sort of Muppet parody of The Hunger Games.

Picture this: You’re hanging out with Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence at his lavish home in Malibu, drinking wine and eating snacks while watching aVanderpump Rules marathon on Bravo. How amazing does that sound?
The best part is—that totally happens! Except you’re not actually part of the festivities (bummer, we know, but hey, we just put it out into the universe so who knows?!).
During the Mockingjay Part 2 panel at Comic-Con in San Diego today, the young actors were asked how they would compare the intensity of Hollywood and show business to the hunger games, and their answer offered some interesting (and hilarious) information.
“There are definitely crazy people in real life and in the hunger games,” Hemsworth answered, before J.Law added, “There certainly are. There’s people in Hollywood that have crazy hair just like in the capital…I don’t know.”
She added, “I mean, I guess there’s certain pressures but we don’t really feel the—again, Josh Hutcherson, Liam and I live on our own island in LA so it’s not like we’re…I don’t really feel the pressures of Hollywood. We’re just kind of always at Liam’s house in Malibu drinking wine. I got him hooked on reality TV.”
Liam interjected with a, “No,” but Lawrence didn’t let him get away with it. “You love Vanderpump Rules,” Jen said. “You do! It was Vanderpump Rules. He texted me weeks later and was like, ‘Kristen and whoever used to date?!'”
Aw, Liam, you’re just like us! We bet the actor was also stoked to hear that Tom Schwartz finally popped the question to longtime girlfriend Katie Maloney.
J.Law has never hidden the fact that she’s a huge reality TV fan, especially when it comes to Lisa Vanderpump‘s spin-off show. Don’t you remember that time the Oscar winner and her gal-pals gave the opening to the show their own touch while dining at SUR?
